Color as the most significant aspect of matter is born from light. The vegetation species on earth is a light dependant action. The soil and the earth also depend on light. Every place on earth has its own special color theme. The earth’s landscapes are diverse in various locations.
Impressionists were a group of painters in 19th century who interpreted and depicted the landscape and outdoor environment based on light. For instance, “Cluade Monet” depicts a landscape of a church’s steeple consisting of four canvases in four different times of a day. They interpreted the objects’ characteristics in their paintings based on the light.
The earth and city appearance follow the light. The architecture in Yazd is shaped based on the shadows, the intensity of light in the sky and the sand of the desert due to sun exposure, especially in this climate. The aim of this paper is not to explain the relation of landscape and light by giving examples, but to explain the significance of light in shaping the environment which is delivered differently in multiple places.
The earth rotates with a tilted axis and in an elliptical orbit around the sun. Therefore, sun exposure is different in different parts of the earth. Differences in solar exposure (earth light) depend on the distance and angle of sun to the earth. Dependent upon the position of the earth to the sun and its movement, difference in sun exposure in different parts of the earth has outcome. Non-uniform distribution of land on the Earth's surface makes the solar exposure further evolving.
As a result, Iranian landscape is one. Every place on Earth has the same condition. But the unity of Iranian landscape has two descriptions: first, being different from other places, second, type and amount of received light. Diversity of vegetation in Iran, presence of ancient civilizations in this land, existence of different climates, proximity of mountains and desert, type of soil and color of environment in Iran cannot be found in any other place.
Although it is biased to sate the following statement but it is researchable. Iran is the land of blue sky, green and land plains, vivacious water and a clear space. These are brought due to Iran’s light. Iranian landscapes are unique in features.
“Nafiseh Mousavian” has confined her interpretation of this phenomenal landscape which is familiar and memorable for Iranian people in a frame. Although everything seems ordinary, it is amazingly full of symbols that can only be found in Iran’s landscape. Perception of this landscape is meaningful for Iranian people and joyful for others.
